Nancy Beck has been an artist all of her life.  Having been blessed with much talent, she was drawing, painting, creating and designing all through grade school and high school.  She studied Fashion Illustration at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia and holds a Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts.  Nancy is a member of the Society of Gilders, the Historical Society of Early American Decoration, the Institute of Classical Architecture & Art, Letterheads, and the Virginia Conservation Association.

She has worked as a free-lance illustrator, producing newspaper ads for women's apparel shops and a quarterly catalog of women's accessory offerings for a manufacturer before taking on the full-time position of Accessory Designer for Katherine Accessories, Inc.  Nancy left the company to work in the Art Conservation field with a Gilding Conservator and there learned about reverse glass gilding and painting, as well as faux finishes and restoration of painted surfaces.

After leaving the employ of the conservation studio to raise her daughter in 1993, she found herself being called upon to continue to create eglomise pieces for museums and institutions as well as private clients.  Her expertise, training and talents kept her in demand and she became, once again, a free-lance artist.

Nancy's attention to detail, eye for color and design, reliability, conservation background and excellent work ethics have placed her in many historic house museums and homes, restoring and creating painted finishes and decorative embellishments, surface gilding, painted floors and floorcloths, gallery backdrops, as well as sign painting and gilding.  She  has worked with antiques dealers and clock makers where she restores reverse glass gilded and painted clock glasses, restores painted dials, replaces missing or damaged glass mats for artworks or eglomise panels in mirror frames for museums as well as clients' personal collections.  Portraits and landscape paintings are also on Nancy's list of accomplishments.

Nancy has an excellent design sense and drawing ability which enables her to handle a variety of projects from the inception to the completion, but she can also be the final "fix" on a restoration project where her deft touch is appreciated.
